Both of Bladen County’s high school football teams will be on the road Friday night as East Bladen travels to Fairmont and West Bladen visits South Columbus.

 

East Bladen (1-0) at Fairmont (1-1)

 

Senior Rasean McKoy sparked the Eagles to a 35-21 opening victory at South Columbus. McKoy returned the opening kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown, rushed 9 times for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns and caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from senior Zach Meares.

 

In addition to McKoy’s 253 yards of total offense, Coach Robby Priest’s Eagles also received solid work from junior Raymond Autry, Jr. who ran for 71 yards on 6 carries including a 27-yard touchdown dash. Meares also tossed a 2-point conversion pass to 6-6 Javant McDowell.

 

A large part of Fairmont’s offense in a 34-30 victory over West Bladen was supplied by Derrick Baker who rushed 14 times for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns and caught 2 passes for 30 yards and a touchdown.  Senior Jahkeem Moore moved from receiver to quarterback and keyed the Fairmont 2nd half rally by completing 3 of 5 passes for 95 yards. He also snagged 3 passes for 61 yards and 2 touchdowns.

 

Sophomore Ty-Rus Morris started a quarterback for Fairmont and completed 8 of 13 passes for 95 yards and 3 touchdowns.

 

West Bladen (0-1) at South Columbus (0-1)

 

West Bladen dominated the first half in their opening 34-30 loss to Fairmont piling up 196 yards while holding the Tornadoes to 22. However a pair of Knight turnovers helped Fairmont stay within 22-12 at halftime, and the Tornado passing game produced a trio of 2nd half touchdowns.

 

Sophomore Hunter Elks rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown and caught 3 passes for 61 more to lead the Knight offense. Junior quarterback Devon Strange threw for 86 yards and a touchdown and ran for 44 yards. Sophomore Gary Parker carried 10 times for 30 yards and 2 touchdowns.

 

South Columbus’ rushing attack racked up 222 yards and controlled the ball for over 30 minutes in their opener against East Bladen. Deonta Elmore was the workhorse with 121 yards rushing and a touchdown on 25 attempts. Teammate Jaheim Dixon added 60 yards rushing and a touchdown on 9 carries.
