LAKE WACCAMAW – East Bladen’s closing rally came up a basket short Tuesday night as the Eagles dropped a 53-51 Waccamaw Conference boys’ basketball decision to East Columbus

The Gators carried a 48-38 lead into the final period, but sophomore Keyshawn Kemp rallied the Eagles with a 3-point bomb, another basket and a free throw. Teammate Shannon Hankins drained a 3-point shot, junior Kewone Maynor and senior Peyton Tatum tossed in baskets.

Baskets by Cainan Patrick and Smith kept the Gators on top. Jaden Troy led the Gators with 16 points, and Patrick followed with 15 points. Smith finished with 10 points.

Junior Dominick Collins fired in a trio of 3-point shots and scored 15 of his 17 points for the Eagles in the 1st half. Kemp and Maynor pumped in 10 points each for East Bladen.

Collins filled up the rims with a pair of 3-balls and 2 other baskets in the 1st period. Kemp banged in 2 baskets, and Maynor netted a basket as the Eagles grabbed a 16-11 lead.

Smith rang up a pair of 3-point baskets, and Jvon Junious pumped in a 3-ball and another basket as the Gators rode a 23-12 surge to a 34-28 halftime lead. Troy tallied 6 points in the period.

Collins buried a 3-point shot and another basket, Maynor threw in 2 baskets, Tatum muscled in a basket, and Lacewell hit a free throw for the Eagles in the period.

Junior Chace Butler popped in a basket and a free throw in the 3rd quarter, and senior Lee Barnes swished 3 free throws. Collins cashed in 2 foul shots, and Maynor added a basket.

Three baskets from Patrick and 2 buckets from Troy extended the Gator lead to 48-38.
