West Bladen High School LogoWest Bladen’s Knights pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim a 58-46 Four County Conference boys basketball victory at Midway Tuesday night.

However the Knights hopes for tying Clinton for the top Class 2A play-off spot from the league was doused when word came that the Dark Horses had knocked off first-place Heide Trask.

The Knights’ third straight victory over the Raiders did clinch fourth-place in the league for West Bladen and sets up a fourth meeting next week in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Junior John Bowen drained a 3-point shot and threw in 2 more baskets in the opening quarter as the Knights took a 13-8 lead. Sophmore Shaquille Johnson sank 2 free throws and made another basket in the period.

Sophmore Jimmy Williams and junior Sayaun Dent tossed in 3 free throws each in the second period, and Dent, Bowen and senior Stefan McDonald added baskets as the Knights kept the halftime lead at 25-20.

McDonald buried a 3-point shot and 2 free throws in the third quarter, and Bowen pumped in 3 baskets in the period. Dent and sophmore Jonathan Robinson delivered baskets that kept West ahead 40-33.

McDonald and senior Will Lambeth nailed 3-point shots in the final quarter for West. McDonald dropped in 2 more baskets in the period, and Bowen, Dent and Williams scored one each. Dent made 2 foul shots in the quarter.

Bowen topped the Knight scoring with 17 points, and McDonald followed with 14 points. Dent finished with 13 points.

Guard Darius Perez led Midway with 11 poiints, and Shyheim Small followed with 9 points.

West Bladen improves to 8-5 in the league and 17-6 overall. The Knights will travel to East Bladen Thursday night for their season finale.
