School Bus Drivers provide transportation needs to students. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, in North Carolina, more than 750,000 students take advantage of schools’ public transportation with more than 13,000 school buses in use. School Bus Drivers must complete training and be certified to drive a bus.

Bladen County Schools stated in a press release about drivers during School Bus Driver Appreciation Week, “They are ambassadors for Bladen County Schools–but they are also leaders and mentors to students.”

Dr. Jason Atkinson, Interim Superintendant noted the local bus drivers continue to work hard delivering around 2,600 meals to Bladen County students every school day.

Nationally, February is Love the Bus month, intended to raise awareness and appreciation for the safe experience of riding the bus.

According to Bladen County Schools, the week of February 7 is “Love the Bus” and School Bus Driver Appreciation Week. 

The Bladen County Board of Education presented a proclamation in honor of  School Bus Driver Appreciation Week at their meeting on Monday, February 8, 2021. Board Chairperson Roger Carroll states, “Bus drivers have worked long and hard.

BCS said in their press release, “Please thank our drivers and transportation staff for everything they do for our students and families. We appreciate their training, professionalism, and care for Bladen’s children!”
