Bladenboro was full of holiday cheer this past weekend. On Friday at 6:30 pm, an estimated 400 people gathered in downtown Bladenboro for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Bladenboro Rotary Club offered hot chocolate, and New Light Church had freshly baked cookies for everyone in attendance. Some of Bladen County’s talents entertained the crowd with singing as Santa and Mrs. Claus took Christmas requests from children.

Then Saturday morning Amanda Sykes and her team of organizers lined up a record-breaking parade.

Joyce Walters said, “It was the biggest parade ever, I think.”

The parade started at 10:30 am and lasted until after noon. Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, and other holiday favorites attended the parade. Galeed Church of Bladenboro won the “Parade Float Contest” with their decorated gingerbread house, complete with a smoking chimney.

Christmas celebrations continue in Bladenboro. This Friday, business owners will compete in the window decorating contest. Local businesses like Market on MainBella Bee Designs, and Allen Brothers Candy Store have specially stocked inventory for this holiday season.
