Today kicks off the United Way of Bladen County Days of Caring. Multiple civic clubs have agreed to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of Days of Caring.

Dr. William Findt, President of the United Way of Bladen County, said, “I think United Way is an important part of this community.”

He added, During the Days of Caring, “the funds raised, items of food collected, and the built ramps are exceptional. It has certainly made a difference over the years.”

This year more civic clubs are joining the caring campaign.

The Kiwanis Club of Elizabethtown has started collecting can food for local charity pantries to assist in the Days of Caring. Kiwanians will gather can food beginning this week. Drop off boxes for the can food drive have been staged for the public to participate. Anyone wanting to donate may drop can food items off at Bladen Builders Supply and Cape Fear Heating & Cooling, LLC.

The East Bladen and West Bladen Key Clubs have also started a can food drive today. All the clubs will not stop collecting the can foods until the end of November. Dr. Lisa Bryan, President of the Kiwanis Club of Elizabethtown, explained this year, instead of doing a competition can food drive, the clubs wanted to bring unity while helping the communities. Therefore, all three clubs are kicking off their annual food drive to celebrate the United Way of Bladen County Days of Caring.

“This is a way we can help each other and promote unity,” Dr. Bryan stated.

The Elizabethtown Rotary Club is also participating in the Days of Caring by purchasing fall decorations for three local nursing facilities. President of the Elizabethtown Rotary Club, Wayne Schaeffer, was pleased to offer assistance to the cause of the non-profit’s campaign. Rotary member Dr. Cathy Gantz, said she and other members would decorate outside the nursing facilities this week with hay bales, mums, and other fall decorations. The three facilities the Rotary is decorating are Bladen East Health & Rehab, Elizabethtown Health & Rehabilitation Center, and West Bladen Assisted Living.

Dr. Findt was thankful for the outpouring of support. He said, “We appreciate all the help. Any donations will certainly be beneficial.”
