On Tuesday afternoon the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office identified a body found near Tabor City on Saturday as that of a woman who had been reported missing on Friday.

The Sheriff’s Office is releasing few details of the investigation into the disappearance of Felicia Moore Porter, but did say that it has now moved to a criminal investigation. According to a release from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, an autopsy was performed on Monday.  Based on the results of the autopsy, the death is being treated as a criminal investigation.

Porter was reported missing on Friday, March 11. She was reported to have last been seen in the vicinity of Fowler’s Supermarket in Tabor City at about 6:30 a.m.

Porter’s body was located in woods near her residence on Saturday afternoon.

“Ensuring the safety and security of Columbus County is our mission.” “I encourage the Tabor City community to carry on with their normal activities. There is no reason to fear for your safety,” stated Sheriff Hatcher.

Since this is an ongoing investigation, no specific details will be released pertaining to a cause of death, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the case.
