Congressman Robert Pittenger HeadshotWASHINGTON –Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) announced the inclusion of Hurricane Matthew recovery assistance funding for the state of North Carolina in the Continuing Resolution funding bill. Congressman Pittenger personally lobbied Members of the relevant Committees for weeks to include the necessary relief funds after touring the damage in Robeson, Bladen, and Cumberland counties.

The Continuing Resolution includes more than $300 million for North Carolina’s Hurricane Matthew recovery package, including funds for:

·         Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery, which can be used support community needs in a variety of ways, such as repairing homes which have been damaged or destroyed, and job creation or training for those whose employment has been affected. Due to the block grant nature of the program, state and local officials have wide latitude in choosing the best use of these funds for their community;

·         USDA Emergency Conservation Program, which will help farmers repair damage to their lands caused by flooding;

·         Federal Highway Administration Emergency Highway Funding, which will be used to repair and reconstruct roads and highways; and

·         The Army Corps of Engineers, which will go to repairing damage done to Army Corp properties.

“The funds secured in the Continuing Resolution represent an important first step in helping North Carolina families and businesses recover from Hurricane Matthew,” said Congressman Pittenger. “This disaster will be felt for many years, and my team and I are committed to helping the people of Robeson, Cumberland, and Bladen navigate the federal bureaucracy to receive appropriate assistance. Please call my office at 704-362-1060 with any questions.”
