DJ MasonIn his final game at Campbell University, West Bladen grad D. J. Mason poured in 19 points Thursday night, but his Camels were eliminated from the Big South Conference Tournament 79-69 by Gardner-Webb.

Mason connected on 8 of 15 shots from the field, nailed his only 3-point shot and sank both of his free throw attempts. The Clarkton native grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out 2 assists.

The 6-6 senior popped in a pair of first-half jump shots, but the Camels trailed 34-22 at halftime.

Mason worked free for a pair of lay-ups that pulled Campbell to within 39-33 with 15:41 left to play. Midway the half Mason dropped in 3 straight lay-ups then made 2 free throws to slice the Bulldog lead to 53-51 with 7:29 remaining.

The Camels tied the game at 53 and 55, but Gardner-Webb answered with a 24-11 run, before Mason bombed in a 3-point shot for the final Campbell points of the season.

Mason finished with a 10.7 scoring average that was third highest on the team. He also led the team on the boards averaging 6.3 per game.
