BaseballElizabethtown outlasted West Robeson 14-10 Sunday night to finish the round-robin portion of the District 9 Coach-Pitch Supplemental Tournament with a perfect 2-0 record and advance to Tuesday’s Championship Game.

Allister Russ started Elizabethtown’s 5-run first inning with a single, and Torrean Cogdell ripped a one-out double. Jake Gooden knocked in Russ and Cogdell with a double.

Mason Smith slugged a double to drive in Gooden, and Peyton Tatum laced a single that scored Smith. Collin King cracked a single, and Easton Bostic’s grounder brought home Tatum.

Smith and Tatum ignited a 4-run Elizabethtown fourth inning with singles. King’s fielder’s choice forced out Smith, but Bostic belted a single to drive in Tatum.

Joshua Freeman smacked a single that plated King, and Brodie Bryant drove in Bostic with a single. Braylon Cromartie’s fielder’s choice brought home Freeman with the final run of the inning.

Laila Smith led off the Elizabethtown fifth with a single, and Russ walloped a double to drive in Smith. Cogdell drove in Russ with a single, and Smith raked a single to left field that scored Cogdell.

The winners tacked on 2 more runs in the sixth inning. Tatum and Collin King began the inning with singles, but Tatum was thrown out on the bases. Bostic followed with a single, and Freeman’s fielder’s choice plated King. Bryant connected for a single that scored Bostic.

Cogdell, Smith and Tatum all batted 3-3 to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Smith turned in a perfect 2-2 day at the plate. Russ, King, Bostic, and Bryant all finished 2-3 at the plate. Gooden and Freeman added one hit each.

Russ, Cogdell, Gooden and Smith slammed one double each for the winners.

Elizabethtown defensive highlights included King’s throwing out a runner at second base from right-centerfield in the third inning. Smith made a game-saving catch in left-centerfield with two runners on base, and Cogdell snagged a line drive to end the game.
