Jarrett Williams and Trey Storms combined on a 3-hit shutout Monday night as West Bladen blanked visiting North Brunswick 10-0 in the opening round of the Dixie Pre-Majors Baseball post-season tournament.
Coach Kim Cain’s Knights improve to 11-5 and will travel to South Columbus Tuesday for a 7 p.m. semi-final game. East Columbus will play North Myrtle Beach, SC in the other semi-final.
Williams pitched 5 innings to pick up Monday’s win, allowing 2 hits and 6 walks, while striking out three. Storms gave up a hit, a walk and hit a batter in his scoreless inning of work.
Chandler Lennon ripped a second-inning double and raced home when Weston Pidgeon cracked a single. Pidgeon stole second base and darted home on Brandon Carson’s single for a 2-0 West Bladen lead.
The Knights broke the game open with 4 runs in the third. Jeremy Hunt hammered a triple to right-centerfield and scored on Donald McCullum’s sacrifice fly.
Scott Bowen smacked a single, Trent West walked and Lennon drilled a triple off the base of the right-field fence that drove in Bowen and West. Ray Jones walloped a double off the left-field fence that scored Lennon.
Seth Britt smashed a double that began a 3-run Knight fifth inning. McCullum blasted a triple to left-field that scored Britt. Bowen’s fielder’s choice plated McCullum. West reached on an error by the right-fielder, and Lennon knocked him in with a double to left-centerfield.
In the West Bladen sixth, Ian Sykes reached on an error, Britt walked and Hunt singled to load the bases. McCullum drew a walk that forced home Sykes with the game-ending run.
Lennon batted 3-3 with 2 doubles, a triple, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in to lead the Knight hitters. Pidgeon finished 2-3 with an rbi and a run scored. Hunt was 2-4 with a triple and a run scored.
McCullum tripled, drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jones cracked the rbi double, Britt doubled and scored, Sykes singled and scored, and Carson drove in a run with a single.
