CLARKTON – Conrad Martinez and Ty’lae Rose slugged home runs Wednesday night to lead Whiteville to an 8-3 victory over Bladen County in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 Majors Tournament Championship Game.
Martinez led off the 4th with a solo shot that padded the Whiteville lead to 4-0, and Rose hammered a 3-run homer in the 5th inning.
Bladen County scored all 3 of their runs in the 6th inning. Jayden Bethea drew a lead-off walk, and Landon Gause smoked a single through the right side. Gaston Russ was hit by a pitch, Drake Gause walked, and Sawyer King belted a single. Bethea, Landon Gause and Gaston Russ all scored.
Peyton Johnson beat out a bunt single for the other Bladen hit. Drake Gause started and pitched 2.1 innings for Bladen County allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and 2 hit batters while striking out one. Bethea pitched the final 3.2 innings in relief, allowing 5 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2.
