TABOR CITY – Columbus County scored 10 runs in the final 2 innings to claim a 16-5 victory over Bladen County Sunday in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 Majors Tournament.
Columbus jumped in front with a 5-run 1st inning and scored 6 more runs in the top of the 5th inning.
Chase Bryan slammed a double to left-center field to start the Bladen half of the fifth. Ashton Davis walked, and Andrew Wren cracked a single that scored Bryan. Sam Cummings smacked a single to center field that brought home Davis.
After Greg Banks walked, Devan Stanley hammered a double to left-center field that scored Wren, Cummings and Banks and sliced the Columbus lead to 12-5.
Columbus tacked on 4 more runs in the 6th inning to advance to Monday night’s winners’ bracket finale against Whiteville National.
Luke Bryant batted 2-for-3 to lead the Bladen hitters, and Stanley slugged the bases-clearing double. Bryan smashed a double and scored a run. Cummings belted a run-scoring single and scored a run. Wren singled and scored a run. Davis and Banks also scored runs.
Bladen County will have a bye Monday and will play again Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the loser of Monday’s Columbus County/Whiteville National game.
