ELIZABETHTOWN –Trey Wilson blasted a grand-slam home run to tie the game, then Colt Lewis walked and scored the winning run as Elizabethtown rallied for an 8-7 victory over Fairmont in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Tournament Championship Game.
Winning the district championship advances Elizabethtown to the DYB State Majors Tournament that begins July 14th in Pembroke.
Elizabethtown trailed 7-2 when walks to Eli Woodell, Stryker Pait, Gunner Lewis and Chandler Wall forced home Woodell. Wilson greeted a new Fairmont pitcher by crushing a line drive over the left-center field fence for the grand-slam that tied the game.
Colt Lewis then walked, stole 2nd base, advanced on a wild pitch then leaped past the Fairmont pitcher to score on a passed ball.
Fairmont had exploded for 7 runs in the 3rd inning on doubles by Tylik Singletary and William Oxendine, Jay Brunson’s single, 4 errors and 3 walks.
Elizabethtown answered with 2 runs in the home 3rd. Landon Pusey reached base on an error, and Woodell walked. Noah Ray knocked in Pusey with a single, and Ray scored as Pait reached base on an error.
Wilson clobbered the grand-slam home run to lead the winners at the plate. Isaiah Lloyd and Chandler Wall drilled doubles, and Wall had an RBI and a run scored. Ray belted the RBI single. Woodell walked 3 times and scored twice. Colt Lewis walked twice and scored a run. Pait and Gunner Lewis both walked and scored runs. Pusey scored a run. Three Fairmont pitchers issued 11 walks.
Ray started for Elizabethtown and pitched 2.2 innings giving up 7 runs – 1 earned – on 6 hits and struck out 4 batters. Colt Lewis pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless, hitless relief, walked 3 and struck out 3. Pait picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief allowing 1 hit and striking out 2.
