ELIZABETHTOWN – Lakota Schmale pitched a 6-hitter and struck out 11 batters on the mound Sunday. At the plate he batted 2-for-3 and knocked in 3 runs to lead Elizabethtown to a 14-6 victory over Fairmont in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Tournament.
Elizabethtown advances to the championship game Tuesday night at 6:30 against the winner of Monday’s Red Springs/Fairmont game.
Schmale issued 7 walks, but only 4 of the Fairmont runs were earned Sunday. Fairmont pitchers walked 12 batters in the game.
After Fairmont scored 1st, Elizabethtown answered with 3 runs in the 2nd inning. Greylon Robinson was hit by a pitch and scored when Colt Lewis drilled a double. Owen Hall walked, and Schmale ripped a single that scored Lewis and Hall for a 3-1 lead.
Elizabethtown stretched the lead to 6-1 in the 3rd inning. Eli Woodell and Stryker Pait drew walks. Gunner Lewis drove in Woodell with a single, and walks to Chandler Wall and Trey Wilson forced home Pait. Another bases-loaded walk to Robinson forced home Gunner Lewis.
Schmale walloped a triple that scored Colt Lewis who had walked to start the Elizabethtown 4th inning and padded the lead to 7-1.
Fairmont closed the gap to 7-3 in the home 4th, but Elizabethtown answered with 2 runs in the 5th. Noah Ray walked and raced home as Gunner Lewis reached base on an error. Lewis later scored to up the count to 9-3.
Elizabethtown pulled away with 5 runs in the 6th inning. Robinson and Colt Lewis hammered back-to-back doubles that scored Robinson. Hall belted a single, and Colt Lewis scored as Isaiah Lloyd reached base on an error. Walks to Landon Pusey, Woodell, Pait and Gunner Lewis forced home Hall, Lloyd and Pusey and extended the lead to 14-3.
Colt Lewis batted 2-for-2 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs to lead the Elizabethtown attack. Schmale slugged the triple and single, and Ray doubled and scored a run. Robinson doubled, scored twice and had an RBI.
Gunner Lewis and Hall had 1 single each. Hall and Gunner Lewis scored 2 runs each. Woodell, Pait, Lloyd and Pusey scored runs. Gunner Lewis had 2 RBIs, and Woodell, Pait, Wilson and Lloyd had 1 RBI each.
