WILMINGTON – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles will open play Thursday in the 25th Annual Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament at Hoggard High School.
Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles are undefeated with an 8-0 record and will face tournament host Wilmington Hoggard (6-3) at 6 p.m. in Boles Gym.
The Lady Vikings are led by senior Blair Barefoot (11 points per game) and sophmore Icess Tresvik (11 points and 7 rebounds per game).
East Bladen senior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson, a UNC-Pembroke signee, averages 12.6 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. Junior Patience Ward averages 19 points and 6 rebounds per game. Junior Erica McKoy adds 12 points and 5.4 assists per game.
The East Bladen/Hoggard winner will play Friday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Conway, SC and Wilmington Laney (7-1).
Other opening round games include New Hanover (3-1) versus Union Pines (4-4) and Wilmington Ashley (5-1) against Pamlico County (5-0).
The tournament will continue through Saturday.
