East Bladen’s soccer program played a key role in the Powerade State Games at UNC-Greensboro this summer. East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor served as site coordinator and basically ran the event on the site.
Eagle assistant coach Joe Melvin was the public address announcer for the weekend. East Bladen soccer players Jackson Bostic, Milton Estrada, Jacob Priest, Brian Monroe and Marcus Baines all worked as staff members for the event and made sure the event ran smoothly.
Elizabethtown native and East Bladen soccer alum, David Shaw also assisted as a site coordinator and administrator.
On the field a trio of Eagles – Spencer Scott, Greyson Heustess and Jake Suggs – played for the Southeast team. Another East Bladen player, Gabe Barber, was also selected for the Games but was unable to attend.
Heustess and Evans combined to score 2 goals and dish out 5 assists in 4 games. Scott recorded 15 saves in goal and posted one shutout.
“It was a great event!” said Coach Raynor. “It was hot but everyone seemed to have a good time. It was good to see our boys perform at a high level. To have four of our guys selected speaks about the caliber of players we have at East Bladen.”
Raynor added, “The guys who helped displayed what type of quality individuals we have within our program. It was a great event that was pulled off without any issues. I attribute a lot of that to my guys who staffed and worked the event. Thankful for the Powerade State Games of North Carolina and David Shaw for giving us an opportunity to assist in this quality event.”
