The Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club met on Tuesday evening for their regularly scheduled meeting. The members welcome special guests and this year’s scholarship winners.
Each year the club gives scholarships to local high school seniors. This year the club gave away four scholarships of $750. Along with money raised by the club, a matching grant was provided by the Kiwanis Carolina District Children Foundation.
The winners this year are: Amber Jones from Harrell’s Christian Academy. Amber won the private school scholarship. Shanyla Hunter from West Bladen won the Key Club scholarship given to a member of the Key club from either East or West Key Club. Lainey Autry won the West Bladen scholarship. Colby Melvin won the East Bladen Scholarship.
Over the years, Key Club members have collected tens of thousands of cans for local food pantries, provided labor for disaster relief efforts to residents, worked with Relay for Life events, and attended Kiwanis Club meetings. All Key Club members were awarded a Key Club cord for their work as a Key Club member.
President of the Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club, Dr. Lisa Bryan, said, “Key Club is an international club that has great recognition and provides and amazing opportunity for students to learn about leadership and helping others.”
Dr. Bryan and club treasurer, Willam Thompson, congratulated the scholarship winners. The families of the scholarship winners also enjoyed a meal provided by the club.
