The Town of Elizabethtown Town Council met for their regular monthly meeting via Zoom.  Council regretfully officially accepted the resignation of Town Manager Eddie Madden.  Madden has served in the position for the past 13 years.  He will be moving to the County Manager position in Columbus County.  Mayor Campbell as well as the Council expressed their appreciation to him for “giving us 13 productive years. He is leaving us in much better shape than he found us.  He has been an asset to this community and will be missed.”  Mayor Campbell announced that retired Assistant Town Manager Pat DeVane will be filling in for Madden while the Council seeks to find a replacement.

Madden gave the Council updates on several ongoing projects.  The Town received FEMA reimbursement for the Greene’s Lake project.  Progress is being made on the current paving trail around the lake and the playground is complete/  The approved landscaping projects for downtown, Town Hall and at the Airport have started.  The Cemetery Project should be ready to start in a few weeks.

In Administrative matters Council approved Special Use Permit Order for Bladen County Sheriff’s Department for an accessory building beside their facility; approved Tax Releases and Unpaid Tax Report 2010-2020 Liens on Real Property; approved Demolition Grant for Property located at 500 and 502 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive; awarded Administrative Services for the 2020 CDBG-NR project to The Adams Company, Inc., based upon recommendation from the Town Manager; approved budget amendment and monthly financial report.

The Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting and Awards Program is scheduled for Thursday, February 25th at Noon. This will be a Virtual meeting. Contact Chamber Director Terri Dennison (874-1274) for the information on connecting to the meeting.

For Town Council ‘s March, April and May meetings, the annexation process will begin for the Mary Greene Industrial Park Property containing 103.88 acres plus two additional parcels (l .382 acres and small parcel by Vineyard Drive) in addition to the 5.92 acres the Town purchased in 2020 from Mrs. Greene. Also, the annexation process will include property owned by Kevin Thompson at 911 Airport Road.

The Council meeting concluded in Closed Session for the purposes of Real Estate and Personnel matters.
