Improvements and expansion of Leinwand Park in Elizabethtown is coming together. The town received a grant in the amount of $215,000 from the North Carolina Parks & Recreation Trust Fund. According to the sign at the park there was a land acquisition of 2.25 acres for the expansion.  

The development of the park was to include the skate park, soccer field, horseshoe courts, shuffleboard courts, playground surfacing, a parking lot and landscaping.
A new paved walking, sheltered picnic area, play ground, dog exercise area and parking lot have been added recent to the Leinwand Park expansion.
The newly expanded area already has an event planned. The “Bladen County Pet Paloozza” and event organized by the Bladen County Animal Control Advisory Board to help the animals at the local shelter. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled during the Palooza to honor Dr. Ray and Mrs. Denise Cross for the land they donated to the town.
Vendors and sponsors are being sought for the first annual Bladen County Pet Palooza scheduled for Friday, June 16, from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. The Pet Palooza will be held at the Elizabethtown Dog Park and the National Guard Armory on Swanzy Street in Elizabethtown.

There will be a ribbon cutting for the dog park at 6 p.m. and a K-9 race at 6:30 p.m. A silent auction will be conducted and there will be games, a 50/50 drawing and the Loose Floorboards will play at 7:30 p.m. All donations are tax deductible.
