Ruth Huggins with the Bladen County LICC announced Family Support Network’s Workshop Series coming soon to Lumberton, NC.  Family Support Network of Southeastern North Carolina is dedicated to providing critical resources to families navigating the complexities of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Recognizing the challenges and questions that can arise, the organization has scheduled a series of insightful workshops aimed at equipping parents with the knowledge and tools needed for effective advocacy and communication.

1. Understanding Your Child’s IEP – April 18, 2024: Parents will receive comprehensive guidance on the intricacies of IEPs, enabling them to confidently discuss their child’s educational plan with school staff. This workshop takes place from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, promising a deep dive into the IEP process.

2. IDEA: Communications and Record Keeping – May 9, 2024: This session focuses on the critical aspects of communication and documentation when working with an IEP, ensuring parents can maintain clear and organized records that benefit their child’s educational journey. The workshop runs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

3. IDEA: What to Do When the Team Doesn’t Agree – May 30, 2024: Sometimes, consensus on an IEP is not easily reached. This workshop addresses such scenarios, providing strategies for parents when they find themselves at an impasse with the school team. Scheduled from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, it aims to empower parents with constructive approaches to disagreement.

Each workshop is hosted at the Partnership for Children, 210 E 2nd St., Lumberton, NC, and includes lunch, combining learning with a chance for community connection. Parents interested in participating are encouraged to register via email to secure their spot in these valuable sessions. The Family Support Network’s initiative underscores its commitment to supporting families through education and advocacy, ensuring every child has access to the tailored education they deserve.
