Three Things to KnowGreetings! 3 things to know for Tuesday, February 3

1. Groundhogs Sir Walter Wally in Raleigh and Snerd in Garner each predicted an early spring during Monday’s Groundhog Day festivities. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter. Let’s go with the local groundhogs.

2. Two more weeks remain in high school basketball’s regular season. While the unbeaten East Bladen girls are rolling merrily along to a conference title, the Four County Conference boys race will be very interesting. West Bladen, Clinton and Midway are tied for first place with 7-3 records while Rocky Point Trask is only a game back at 6-4. Aside from Union, it’s a very competitive conference.

3. One of the best lines following New England’s 28-24 Super Bowl win when Seattle opted not to hand the ball to Marshawn Lynch at the 1 yard line in the closing seconds and, instead, had a pass intercepted: Picture of Rob Lowe that reads, “I’m Robb Lowe and I have DirecTV.” Next, a picture of Rob Lowe face superimposed over Seattle head coach Pete Carroll that reads, “And I’m incredibly stupid Rob Lowe, I have the best running back in the NFL, but I passed the ball from the 1, and I have cable.”

And now you know.
