Bladen County Public Library is excited to announce a special “Fine-Free Friday” taking place at all three library branches on Friday, October 27 th . On this day only, all books, DVDs, and other library materials that have incurred a late fee can be turned in free of charge. Library staff will waive all fines for materials returned inside the library or dropped in the drop boxes at their three locations.

According to Bladen County Library Director Sheila Nance the purpose of this event is to help Bladen County residents in a small way by alleviating a financial obligation, while also helping the library to retrieve materials that may otherwise not have been returned. She elaborated, “So often people get caught up in their daily lives and just forget to return their library books. It happens. At 10 cents a day per book, library fines can build up pretty quickly. We try to help by auto-renewing books for our patrons, but after 2 automatic renewals, the fines kick in. We are hoping that Bladen County residents will dig out their library books, drop them off, and take advantage of having that fine waived.”

Nance added, “We want to encourage everyone to drop in our libraries at Elizabethtown, Clarkton, and Bladenboro. We have made so many updates and upgrades and have really freshened up our collection of books. There’s no need to spend your money on books when you can check out best sellers and new releases for free at your local library.”

Bladen County Public Library participates in Resource Sharing through its membership with the NC Cardinal Consortium. This means that if they don’t have the book a patron is seeking, they can retrieve it for free in just a few days from a participating library. This partnership has been beneficial for libraries across the state of North Carolina, allowing them to share their collections with each other to meet the needs of readers near and far.

Whether you have current checkouts to be returned to the library or not, drop in and see all that the library has to offer. They offer so much more than just books!
