Nick West, Elizabethtown Fire Chief met with town commissioners at noontime Monday and discussed the purchase of a new fire truck and the long range plans for updating other vehicles.
West explained that the new truck would provide 20 years of service to the Town of Elizabethown and the fire district around the town. The town and county jointly fund the fire department with a fire district tax.
West also suggested that other equipment would need updating over the next few years. His proposal would be to refurbish several trucks at a substantial savings compared to the purchase of new vehicles.
If purchase of the new truck is approved Monday evening, delivery should be the fall of this year. The total cost of the new engine would be $454,896. That includes all equipment and ready to go.
