DUNN – Senior quarterback Tripp Westbrook threw for 243 yards and 4 touchdowns Friday night to lead Midway to a 51-24 Southeastern Athletic Conference football victory over West Bladen.

Westbrook completed 10 of his 13 passes and opened the scoring with a 55-yard touchdown pass to junior Thomas Perez. Junior Cody Ammons ran the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Ammons who led the Midway ground game with 107 yards on 22 rushes carried 7 yards for a Raider touchdown then ran again for the 2-point conversion and a 16-0 Midway lead with 2:08 on the 1st period clock.

The Knights answered 1 minute into the 2nd period as senior Messyah Whitted capped a West drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Sophomore quarterback Hunter Hester connected with junior Hezekiah Adams on the 2-point conversion pass that sliced the margin to 16-8.

Nineteen seconds later Westbrook hurled an 83-yard touchdown pass to senior Andre Gregory. Ammons toted again for the 2-point conversion and a 24-8 Raider lead.

With 2:33 left in the half, Westbrook tossed a 12-yard TD pass to junior Ke’mari McNeill. Once again Ammons tacked on the conversion run for a 32-8 halftime lead.

Ammons began the 2nd half scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run that pushed the lead to 38-8 at the 7:38 mark.

Knight senior Aaron Lewis scooped up the short Raider kickoff and bolted 50 yards for a touchdown. Whitted rammed through the line for the 2-point conversion that trimmed the lead to 38-16.

Ammons answered with a 2-yard touchdown run for Midway that upped the count to 44-16, and 2 minutes later Westbrook hooked up with junior Wyatt Herring on a 13-yard touchdown pass. Senior Rudy Perez kicked the extra point for a 51-16 lead.

Knight junior Justin Spaulding banged into the end zone from 2 yards out for a West touchdown then plowed through the line again on the 2-point conversion run to whittle the lead to 51-24 with 58 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.

Whitted sparked the Knight offense with 119 yards rushing and a touchdown on 22 carries. Adams totaled 25 yards on 6 attempts. Hester completed 6 of 11 passes for 72 yards. Adams caught 2 passes for 39 yards, and junior Noah Hall snared 2 passes for 17 yards. Senior Jahmar Richardson had 2 pass receptions for 16 yards.

Lewis had the 50-yard kickoff return touchdown and topped the defense with 9 tackles. Richardson finished with 5 tackles, and sophomore Malachi Townsend recovered a Raider fumble.

Gregory led the Midway receivers with 3 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. McNeill had 3 receptions for 24 yards and a TD. Thomas Perez caught the 55-yard TD pass, and sophomore Gehemiah Blue ran 5 times for 43 yards.

West Bladen, now 0-2 in SAC-6 play and 2-5 overall, will host St. Pauls Friday night.
