TABOR CITY- Junior quarterback Treshawn Grate ran for 5 touchdowns and threw for another to lead South Columbus to a 48-24 Three Rivers Conference football victory over West Bladen Friday night.

Grate and senior receiver E. J. Tisdale both missed last week’s season opener due to coronavirus quarantine, Grate was really impressive in his season debut rushing for 189 yards on 13 carries and scoring on runs of 17, 29, 22, 15 and 47 yards. He also connected with Tisdale on a 27-yard touchdown pass and on a 2-point conversion pass. His 40 yards passing gave Grate 229 yards of total offense.

Deonta Elmore rushed for 132 yards on 15 attempts as the Stallions racked up 356 yards rushing and 392 yards of total offense in the game.

Grate opened the South scoring with a 17-yard touchdown run. Oscar Pineda tacked on the point-after for a 7-0 Stallion lead with 4:49 on the 1st quarter clock.

The Knights answered quickly as junior quarterback Devon Strange fired a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior ShyRon Adams. Sophomore Gary Parker ran the 2-point conversion to vault West Bladen in front 8-7 with 2:53 remaining in the period.

Grate answered with a 29-yard touchdown run 24 seconds before the end of the quarter to push South Columbus ahead 13-8. At the 7:45 mark of the 2nd period, a 22-yard TD run by Grate stretched the margin to 19-8. Grate found the end zone again on a 15-yard run 57 seconds before halftime then hurled a 2-point conversion pass to Tisdale to grow the lead to 27-8 at halftime.

The Grate-to-Tisdale combination clicked again on a 27-yard touchdown pass to begin the 2nd half. Pineda booted the point for a 34-8 Stallion lead with 10:05 on the clock. Grate raced 47 yards for another touchdown, and Pineda converted for a 41-8 lead.

Parker rallied the Knights by bolting 9 yards for a Knight touchdown then running the 2-point conversion to whittle the margin to 41-16 as the 3rd quarter ended.

Landon Norris scored the final South touchdown on a 3-yard run, and Pineda added the point for a 48-16 lead.

Parker banged into the end zone from 2 yards out for the final Knight touchdown. Adams ran the 2-point conversion to shrink the final margin to 48-24.

Parker was the workhorse of the Knight attack toting the ball 19 times for 123 yards with touchdown runs of 9 and 2 yards. He also ran a pair of 2-point conversions. Powerful junior Damarius Robinson rushed 10 times for 94 yards, and Strange picked up 49 yards on 6 attempts as West Bladen racked up 287 yards rushing.

Strange’s 40 yard touchdown pass to Adams was his only completion in 6 attempts. Adams also ran a 2-point conversion.

The Knights racked up 16 first downs in the game and didn’t lose a fumble, but did fail to convert on four 4th down opportunities.

West Bladen will travel to West Columbus Friday night.
