West Bladen High School LogoDUBLIN – Whiteville exploded for 22 unanswered points in the second quarter en route to a 56-21 Three Rivers Conference football victory over West Bladen Friday night.

Following a Knight fumble on their opening possession, Wolfpack Ty Moss broke loose for a run that set up Keshawn Bellamy’s short touchdown run and a 6-0 Whiteville lead.

Senior Dayvon Swindell popped free for runs of 8 and 12 yards to highlight the Knights first scoring drive. Sophmore Tyre Boykin kept the ball and sped around left end on a 10-yard touchdown run. Jose Garcia kicked the extra point to edge West Bladen ahead 7-6 with 2:55 left in the period.

Whiteville’s Quentin Smith dashed 3 yards for a touchdown that vaulted the Wolfpack on top 12-7 with 1:38 on the clock.

The Knights answered with a 62-yard drive in 4 plays. Senior B. J. Drake ran for 6 yards before Boykin fired a 45-yard pass to junior Kerron Washington that moved the ball to the Wolfpack 11 yardline. Two plays later Drake bolted 17 yards for a touchdown that put West Bladen up 13-12 as the period ended.

Back came the Wolfpack with touchdowns from Bellamy and Moss. Moss then connected with Cameron Smith on a touchdown pass that put Whiteville ahead 34-13 at halftime.

Moss ran for a third period touchdown then threw to Cameron Smith for another touchdown as the lead grew to 50-13. Joziah Bell sprinted 38 yards for the final Wolfpack touchdown.

“We started out well,” said Knight Coach Kris Williams. “Traded punches like prizefighters for awhile. They made some defensive adjustments that forced us to punt a couple of times, but they continued scoring.”

Drake powered into the end zone from a yard out for the final Knight touchdown in the final period. Drake led the Knight offense with 93 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on 14 carries.

Swindell finished with 28 yards rushing, and Jalen Drew had 25 yards. Boykin completed 6 of 9 passes for 70 yards. Washington had 3 receptions for 57 yards.

Moss ran for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns and completed 12 of 19 passes for 200 yards and 2 more touchdowns to lead Whiteville. Bellamy rushed for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cameron Smith caught 7 passes for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Senior Jimmy Williams led the Knight defense with 9 tackles – 7 solo. Senior Jvahn Thomas finished with 8 tackles – 6 solo. Senior Michael Hepburn followed with 7 tackles, and Jason Moore had 4 tackles.

“I may be wrong but I don’t believe anybody else has scored as much as 21 on them,” said Coach Williams. “They are really good, definitely play-off caliber.”

West Bladen, now 3-4 overall and 1-4 in league, will host West Columbus Friday night.
