On Saturday, there will be a fundraiser for Live Oak Methodist Church at the Elizabethtown Middle School Cafeteria from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Barbecue plates cost a minimum $7 donation and folks can purchase barbecue by the pound at a cost of $7 per pound. There will also be a bake sale and crafts available for purchase as well as face painting.

Daryl Strickland said the church suffered damage from Hurricane Matthew and mold has started to grow inside the church. The congregation is currently meeting at the Live Oak Community Building until the church is repaired.

“There was water underneath the church and it caused mold to grow underneath the church and it has gotten inside the church,” said Strickland.

He said the church has received a cost estimate of $26,000 to remediate the mold and the congregation is trying to raise the funds needed for that. Strickland added the congregation will appreciate any help they can get and all donations are appreciated. Strickland said it is estimated that the repairs will take about 6 to 12 months to complete.

“The clean up has to be done by a certified mold remediation company,” said Strickland.

A GoFundMe page has also been established to accept donations.
