ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson fired in 15 points, and senior Emily Scott grabbed 13 rebounds to lead East Bladen to a 39-31 non-conference girls basketball victory Friday night over Word of God Christian Academy of Raleigh.

Moore-Peterson bombed in a trio of 3-point shots and scored 11 of her points in the first half as the Lady Eagles built a 19-15 halftime lead.

Scott threw in all 8 of her points in the second half and wasn’t far from a triple-double with 13 rebounds and 9 steals. “Emily had a great game,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers.

A Moore-Peterson 3-ball and baskets from sophmore Ashley Hardin and freshman Patience Ward helped the Eagles edge ahead 9-8 in the first quarter. Two more 3-pointers and another basket from Moore-Peterson stretched the lead out to 4 points at halftime.

Scott keyed a 14-7 Lady Eagle surge with 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the third quarter. Junior Shardajah Brown, Hardin and Moore-Peterson added a basket each in the period as the East Bladen lead grew to 33-22.

Brown, Scott and Moore-Peterson scored one basket each in the final quarter as East Bladen held on for the victory.

Brown finished with 6 points for the winners. Ward and Hardin added 4 points each, and Hardin pulled down 11 rebounds.

Elise Williams topped the Holy Ram scoring with 15 points. Teammate Palace Finch followed with 8 points.

The Lady Eagles improved to 5-1 with the victory.
