ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles avenged their only loss of the season Friday night with a 48-32 girls basketball victory over second-place Red Springs in Three Rivers Conference action.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles opened up a 2-game lead over Red Springs as they improved to 10-1 in league play and 15-1 overall.

The Lady Eagles blitzed Red Springs with a 17-4 first quarter run. East Bladen stretched the lead to 28-13 at halftime and 36-20 after three quarters.

Junior guard Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson fired in 20 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and came up 2 steals to lead the East Bladen attack. Junior Erica McKoy pumped in 15 points for the winners.

Senior Shardajah Brown led East Bladen on the boards with 12 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, blocked 3 shots and tallied 6 points. Sophmore Patience Ward pulled down 8 rebounds, had 3 steals and scored 5 points.

Junior Ashley Hardin corralled 7 rebounds, and sophmore Lorna Mendell blocked 3 shots and snatched 3 rebounds.

“This was a big win for the girls,” said Coach Evers. “I am proud of our defense tonight and the chemistry we found on offense.” The East Bladen defense held Red Springs star Taya Jones to just 11 points.

“Shar did a great job on the offensive boards tonight and everyone played great defense,” continued Coach Evers. “It was nice to get this win.”

The Lady Eagles will travel to West Columbus Thursday night after the exam break.
