Gov. Roy Cooper is expected to give updates Tuesday on COVID-19 in the state and plans for K-12 public schools.

The Governor’s Office announced that Cooper will addresses the issues at 3 p.m. from the Emergency Operations Center in Raleigh.

Cooper extended his Safer At Home Phase 2 plan on June 24 until July 17 and added a requirement for people to wear face coverings in public as COVID-19 positive cases rose in the state.

Public schools are scheduled to open Aug. 17, but no plans have been released whether students and staff will be on campus. School systems across the state closed campuses in mid-March due to COVID-19 and instruction continued online.

N.C. High School Athletic Association Commissioner Que Tucker said last week that she couldn’t envision sports being played without students being on campus.
