On October 26, the Healthy Bladen Collaborative met and announced two exciting initiatives. Emily Barnes, Terri Duncan, Ernest Watts, Amber Sholar, Deja Byrd, Sharon Hester, Andrea Singletary, Sheila Nance, Cathy Gantz, Quessie Peterson were all in attendance.

Emily Barnes, BS said, “As the Bladen County Health Department Health Educator, I would like to invite the community to participate in the Healthy Holiday Challenge!”

Barnes explained, the Challenge provides opportunities to improve the health of ourselves and others in Bladen County. A QR code for the Healthy Holiday Challenge has been created for quick access. View and share the QR code below.

The question the healthy collaborative asks is, “Are you worried about holiday weight gain?”

Now is the time to stop worrying and join the 15th annual Holiday Challenge! This free 7-week program includes weekly newsletters, daily tips, healthy recipes, and challenges to help you maintain your weight this holiday season. Some local residents may be worried about where they will get food. Quessie Peterson with the Baltimore Community Center announced a food distribution on the third Wednesday this month, November 17, 2021. There are about five volunteers that will help feed about 70 families. The event will take place from 11 am until 3 pm at the Baltimore Center.

Another important note is the Bladen County Strategic Planning Survey is now being collected. The survey is easy and takes less than ten minutes. The survey is available in both English and Spanish at the link listed below. Survey responses are due on November 5, 2021.

The next healthy collaborative meeting will be held on November 23, 2021, from 9:00 am -10:00 am at the NC Cooperative Extension Office located on Smith Circle in Elizabethtown.
