He said, “Fire crews from Clarkton, Bladenboro, Elizabethtown, and Lisbon responded and did an excellent job at stopping the fire.  The fire started in the Kitchen area of the house.” He continued, “Also, the homeowner was home asleep at the time of the fire but made it out safely.”

The home owner and her son are currently staying with family members. At this time no information has been provided about collecting donations for the victims.

The second fire was at 42 Hillside Street around 7:00am Sunday morning on Sunday, March 15, on the east side of Clarkton, but was an unoccupied home, according to Smith’s report. The  structure was fully engulfed upon fire personnel’s arrival and burned completely.  “Fire crews from Clarkton, Bladenboro, Elizabethtown, and Lisbon responded to this one as well.  Crews worked to keep the fire contained to the property burned,”  Smith said.

He added, “All fire crews returned to service safely!”
