ELIZABETHTOWN – Zach Sholar and Jaxson Hair combined on a 3-hitter and struck out 10 batters to lead East Bladen to a 6-2 Waccamaw Conference jayvee baseball victory over Pender Tuesday.

Coach James Ben Daly’s Eagles improved to 3-0-1 in Waccamaw play and 4-1-2 overall. The JV Eagles next game is scheduled at Heide Trask on April 9th.

Sholar started on the bump and pitched 5 innings allowing a run on 2 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7. Hair worked an inning of relief and gave up a run on a hit and a walk while striking out 3.

The Eagles jumped in front with a 3-run 1st inning. Sholar walked, stole 2nd base and scored on an error. Torrean Cogdell raked a single to the left side, stole a base and raced home on Colton Daly’s sacrifice fly. Isaiah Lee was hit by a pitch, stole 2nd base, advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Hair smacked a single to right field.

Pender turned a walk, a double and a wild pitch into a 3rd inning run. Tyler Eason laced a single to right in the bottom of the inning, stole a base and raced home when Easton Bostic cracked a single to right field to pad the lead to 4-1.

The Patriots trimmed the margin to 4-2 in the 6th. In the home 6th, Levi Harrellson was hit by a pitch, and Sholar pounded a double to center field. Braylon Cromartie, the courtesy runner for Harrellson, scored on an error on the play. Cogdell spanked a single to left that scored Sholar for a 6-2 lead.

Cogdell batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored. Sholar doubled and had an RBI and 2 runs scored. Lee, Eason, Hair and Bostic connected for 1 hit each. Daly, Hair and Bostic drove in runs, and Lee, Eason and Cromartie scored runs.
