ST PAULS – Spencer Scott pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 9 Thursday night to lead East Bladen to an 8-5 jayvee baseball victory over St. Pauls.

Scott got stronger as the game went along and struck out the side in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Freshman Greyson Heustess batted 3-4 with a run scored and a run batted in for the Eagles. Eric Chancy was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and a run scored. Scott finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored and an rbi.

Bernard Robinson, Jr. batted 2-3 with a run scored and an rbi. Teammate Rhett Burney cracked 2 hits in 3 at-bats and scored a run. Shy Pone and Holden Clark connected for one hit each.

After the Bulldogs jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning, Scott, Robinson and Chancy belted second inning singles. Scott scored the run, and Chancy drove it in and trimmed the margin to 3-1.

Heustess and Scott smacked singles to begin the East Bladen third. Chancy walked, and Clark reached base on an error. All four runners came around to scored and give the Eagles a 5-3 lead.

St. Pauls tied the game in the home third, but the Eagles went back on top with 2 runs in the fifth. Pierce Melvin reached base on an error, and Robinson drove him in with a single. Robinson raced home on Chancy’s second hit of the game as the Eagles took a 7-5 lead.

The Eagles tacked on a run in the sixth as Burney delivered a single, and Heustess drove him in with a single that padded the lead to 8-6.

The Eagles improved to 2-1 with the victory.
