ELIZABETHTOWN — Dale Martin pitched a five-hit shutout Wednesday afternoon in leading Midway to a 4-0 win against East Bladen in a junior varsity baseball game at Russell Priest Field. The game was stopped after five innings because of the time limit.

It was the first conference loss for the Eagles, now 5-1 in Southeastern Athletic Conference play and 7-2 overall. Midway is 4-1 in the league and 5-4-2 overall. The teams are scheduled to play at Midway on Friday.

Martin, a freshman right-hander, struck out four, didn’t walk a batter and threw 43 strikes in his 62 pitches in tossing the shutout. The Eagles had only two runners reach as far as second base.

Carson Gooden took the loss on the mound. He gave up four runs — two earned — on six hits and six walks. He struck out two.

Cole Butler was 2-for-2 to lead the East Bladen offense. Na’toren Corbett, Darius Williamson and Bray Heustess each had one hit.

A pair of two-out errors in the third inning on dropped infield pop-ups by the Eagles allowed Midway to score twice.

The Raiders made it 3-0 in the fourth. Consecutive singles by Martin, Wyatt Herring and Wyatt Richards loaded the bases. After the second out, Jarrett Cooper was hit by a pitch that forced home a run.

In the the fifth, Midway’s Christian Lee was hit by a pitch and later scored on Herring’s single up the middle. Herring was 3-for-4 to lead the Raiders at the plate.
