BLADENBORO – Sophomore Jacob Priest sank 3 free throws with 1.9 seconds left that gave East Bladen a 35-33 Three Rivers Conference jayvee boys basketball victory over West Bladen Friday night.

A Priest lay-up that resulted in a 3-point play pushed the Eagles ahead 32-31 with 1:30 remaining, but Jadacus Register made 2 of 4 free throws to put West on top 33-32 at the 30-second mark.

Priest topped all scorers with 15 points, and teammates Charles Brown and Mahki Cromartie followed with 9 points each.

Javonta Matthews led the Knights with 12 points, and Donovan Stone followed with 9 points. Register and Lance Soumahoro finished with 5 points each.

Priest buried a 3-point shot, Cromartie dropped in a lay-up, and Zach Meares made a free throw for an early 6-0 Eagle lead. Matthews answered with a basket, and Register hit a free throw.

Cromartie and Brown nailed 3-point shots as the East lead grew to 12-3. Stone drilled in a 3-pointer for West, but a Brown follow shot pushed the Eagle lead to 14-6 at the quarter break.

A Priest lay-up stretched the lead to 16-6, but Matthews drove for a West lay-up. Priest canned 2 free throws, but Matthews bombed in a 3-ball for the Knights. East’s Ahmad Powell and Soumahoro traded free throws as the Eagles took a 19-12 halftime lead.

Cromartie began the third quarter with a basket, but Stone threw in a pair of 3-point shots, and Soumahoro put back a rebound to pull West to within 21-20. After Cromartie banked in a runner, Matthews drained a 3-point shot, and a Joshua Lewis lay-up gave the Knights a 25-23 lead at the quarter break.

Register opened the final period with a runner, but a Cromartie assist resulted in a Brown lay-up. A Soumahoro follow shot padded the West lead to 29-25.

Priest popped in a baseline jumper, and Brown flipped in an 8-footer. Matthews hooked in a runner for a 31-29 West lead with 1:40 remaining.

Both East Bladen and West Bladen completed their seasons with Friday’s game.
