BLADENBORO- Javontae Matthews fired in 9 of his 15 points in the second half as West Bladen rallied for a 36-32 Three Rivers Conference jayvee boys basketball victory over South Columbus.
Matthews dropped in 2 baskets, Josiah Brown sank 2 free throws, and Amir Stepps added a basket to keep the Knights within 11-8 at the first quarter break.
Baskets from Matthews and Anthony Cowan trimmed the Stallion lead to 14-12 at halftime. Cowan and Keshawn Ballard bombed in 3-point shots, and Matthews pumped in a basket and a free throw as the Knights went up 21-18 at the third quarter break.
Matthews drained a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw in the final period. Anthony Mitchell tossed in a pair of baskets, Ballard sank 3 free throws, and Cowan cashed in 2 free throws to keep the Knights on top.
Cowan followed Matthews on the West scoring list with 7 points. Ballard totaled 6 points.
Coach Jason Hemingway’s Knights, now 4-6, will travel to Fairmont Friday night after the exam break.
