Freshman Anna Kate White fired in all 7 of her points during a 13-0 closing run that carried East Bladen’s jayvee girls to a 37-23 Four County Conference basketball victory at West Bladen Tuesday.
Freshman Conner Brisson’s driving lay-up with 5:31 remaining had trimmed a 9-point East Bladen lead to 24-23.
White sank a free throw then turned a Kaley Smith assist into a lay-up and a 27-23 lead. Alexis Lewis drove for a lay-up, and Asia Munn stole the ball and raced for another Lady Eagle lay-up and a 31-23 lead.
Smith who led the Lady Eagle scoring with 9 points threw in a basket, and White dropped in a lay-up and banked in a runner at the buzzer for the final margin.
Munn and center Deija Edwards finished with 6 points each for the winners.
Brisson who topped the West Bladen scoring with 9 points scored a pair of early baskets as the Lady Knights grabbed a 7-0 lead.
Jayme LeeAnn Frady drained a 3-point shot, and Lewis and Edwards added baskets as East closed the gap to 8-6.
Brisson tallied 3 points in the second period, and Anna Moser tossed in a basket for West, but Edwards worked inside for 4 points, and Munn and Smith added baskets as East went up 15-13 at halftime.
Smith flipped in a baseline runner then drilled a 3-point shot to begin the second half. Munn’s lay-up stretched the East lead to 22-13.
West’s Helen Lopez popped in a 15-footer, and teammate Chasitty Lacy nailed a 3-point shot to slice the lead to 22-18.
Sarah Johnson stole the ball and sprinted for a lay-up that pushed the East lead to 24-18. Mikayla Winebarger’s free throw whittled the deficit to 24-19 at the quarter break.
Coach Megan Kirby’s Lady Eagles evened their league record at 2-2. Coach Joe Lewis’ Lady Knights are now 2-1 in the Four County and 3-5 overall.
