BURGAW- Pender outlasted East Bladen 2-1 Thursday in a marathon Waccamaw Conference jayvee volleyball match by set scores of 25-22, 30-32 and 25-20.

“Even though the outcome was not in our favor my girls came to battle and I couldn’t be more proud of them!” said Lady Eagle Coach Jessica Eason. “Some of the best playing they have done all season so far.”

A 5-point service run from libero Kaylee Woodcock pushed Pender in front 15-11 in the opening set. Two service points from Lady Eagle libero Mileigh Martin and 1 each from Kaylie Atkins, Marlee Potter and Aubrie Nixon tied the set 19-19. A 4-point service run from Miya Jones edged the Lady Patriots ahead 24-19.

Freshman Tatum Allen fired in 6 straight service points to rally the Lady Eagles from an 11-3 deficit in Set 2. Sophomore Jenna Brice knocked in 2 service points, before Atkins captured 5 consecutive service points to knot the score 20-20.

Two more service points from Martin tied the set 25-25. Brice won a service point for a 29-28 lead, and Atkins served out the set with a pair of service points at 32-30.

Two service points each from Martin and Allen and 1 each from Atkins and Potter propelled the Lady Eagles to a 10-3 lead in the deciding set. A 5-point service run from Woodcock trimmed the margin to 12-10. A pair of service points from Charleigh Rivenbark knotted the score 18-18, and the teams traded side-outs until Jensen Bordeaux served out the match for Pender with a 4-point service run.

Allen poured in 12 service points to lead East Bladen. Atkins racked up 9 service points, and Potter finished with 7 service points. Martin and Nixon followed with 4 service points each, and Brice tallied 3 service points.

East Bladen, now 1-1 in league play and 3-5 overall, will travel to Heide Trask Tuesday.
