WHITEVILLE – Whiteville defeated East Bladen 2-0 Monday in Three Rivers Conference jayvee volleyball action by set scores of 25-23 and 25-13.
The Lady Eagles led for most of the first set. Service points from juniors Adrienne Howell and Shanell McMillian, sophmores Alyssa Futrell and Cheylee Mathis and freshman Merritt Martin pushed East in front 12-8.
A trio of service points from Howell widened the gap to 16-11. Another Futrell service point and 2 more from sophmore Cheyanne Merritt kept the East lead at 22-17, but an 8-1 Whiteville closing run claimed the set.
Whiteville raced to a 12-3 lead in the second set and closed out the match.
Futrell slammed in a kill, 2 blocks and 5 service points to lead the Lady Eagles. Howell knocked in 5 service points, and freshman Alexis Mitchell was credited with 2 digs.
Merritt fired in a pair of service points, and Mathis drilled in an ace and a service point. McMillian and Martin tallied one service point each.
The Lady Eagles will travel to rival West Bladen Tuesday at 4:30.
