WHITEVILLE – Whiteville defeated East Bladen 3-0 Monday night in Three Rivers Conference volleyball action by set scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-18.

Service points from junior Lorna Mendell and sophmore Kayleigh Raynor edged East ahead 6-5 early in the first set. Mendell knocked in a pair of service points, and Raynor and senior Sarah Johnson tallied one service point each to keep the Lady Eagles up 18-15, but a 10-2 Whiteville run claimed the set.

The Lady Wolfpack started the second set with a 17-4 run. A trio of service points from Raynor and two more by Johnson interrupted the run, but Whiteville took the set.

Service points from junior Gracyn Martin and Johnson kept the Lady Eagles even at 8-8 in the third set, but a 10-4 Lady Wolfpack surge opened up an 18-12 lead. Johnson rallied East Bladen with a trio of service points, before Whiteville closed out the match.

Mendell blasted in 6 kills, 4 blocks, an ace and 4 service points. Johnson pounded in 6 kills, 3 blocks, 7 service points and an ace. Raynor drilled in 4 kills, 2 blocks and 7 service points.

Junior Ruth Ward knocked in 2 kills and had 3 digs for the Lady Eagles. Junior Cybil Campbell knocked in 2 service points, a kill and had one dig. Sophmore Katie Evans finished with a service point, an ace and a dig.

Junior Gracyn Martin tallied 2 service points for East. Junior Lila McDuffie spiked in one kill.

The Lady Eagles will travel to rival West Bladen Tuesday at 4:30.
