
Bladen County golf pro Kayla Thompson of Clarkton missed the cut in the FCA Women’s Championship being played this week in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Thompson shot rounds of 85-78=163.
Thompson had a pair of bogeys in her first three holes, but a pair of birdies left her at even-par after six holes. She had a quadruple bogey 8 on the par-4 eighth hole to fall off the pace and made the turn at 42. Thompson shot 43 on the back nine, which included a triple bogey on No. 15 and a double bogey on No. 12. She finished her round with a birdie on No. 18.
Thompson improved her score by seven strokes in Wednesday’s second round. She had birdies on No. 6 and No. 12, but had problems again with No. 8 and made a a triple bogey.
Mikayla Fitzpatrick of Phoenix, Arizona leads with a 5-under 139 at the midpoint of the tournament.
Thompson’s next tournament is the Taco Bell Natchez Classic in Natchez, Mississippi on May 16-19.
Thompson graduated from West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington.
