Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson shot 7 over par 79 Wednesday in the second round of the LPGA and Epson Tour qualifying tournament in Venice, Florida.

The West Bladen High and UNC Wilmington graduate opened the 72-hole tournament Monday with a 4-over 76.

Her two-round score of 155 was tied for 133rd midway through tournament that has a field of 187 players.

The tournament is being played on the Bobcat Course and Panther Course at Plantation Golf & Country Club.

Amateur Ingrid Lindblad leads at 11-under 133 and has a four shot lead over Pinyada Kuvanun.

The top 40 players and ties will advance to the Q-series qualifying tournament. All players who complete four rounds will earn a spot on the Epson Tour, which is a qualifying tour for the LPGA.

Thompson, who started her first round Tuesday on No. 10 on the Panther Course, was at 2-under through five holes after birdies on No. 11 and No. 14, but a quadruple bogey 8 on No. 17 and a bogey on No. 18 left her at 3-over at the turn. She shot 1-over 37 on the front side and closed with a birdie on No. 9.

In Wednesday’s second round, played on the Bobcat Course, Thompson opened with a pair of bogeys before getting a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole. A triple bogey 7 on No. 14 along with three bogeys on the back nine gave her a 79 for the round.

Thompson is scheduled to play the Bobcat Course on Thursday. She will tee off on No. 10 at 8:12 a.m. The final round is set to be played Friday.
