On the heels of the coronavirus outbreak, local churches and officials are making decisions out of precautions for the pandemic. Although there have been no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Bladen County, Elizabethtown residents are urged to wash their hands, and a Presbyterian church canceled services.

Alexis Craig, Communications Assistant with Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, released the following statement regarding the church’s services.

“Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the session has made the difficult decision to cancel all church activities for the following week. This includes Sunday School and Church Service this Sunday. It has also been decided that the remainder of the Wednesday Night Suppers are canceled. Decisions for the following Sunday’s will be determined on a weekly basis.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call any session member.
Sincerely Elizabethtown Presbyterian Session”

Mayor of Elizabethtown, Sylvia Campbell, released the following statement:

“The Town of Elizabethtown is monitoring closely the coronavirus and is making future plan in case further measures need to be taken. We encourage our citizens to remain vigilant in washing your hands frequently and avoiding contact with those who are infectious with any sickness, especially any that might have interacted with those who have the coronavirus.

Sylvia Campbell
Mayor of Elizabethtown”

Towns Buildings to Close to Public: But Public Can Contact Town

Considering the recommendations released from Governor Cooper regarding the precautions to prohibit the spread of the coronavirus, the Town Hall and other related buildings will be closed to the public starting Monday, March 16. The closure will be in effect until further notice.

The Town staff will be working regular hours and can be contacted through calling or e-mailing the appropriate person. A sign on the front of each building will give contact phone numbers.

People needing to make payments are encouraged to pay using the on-line service, the drop off box or drive-thru window on the west side of the building. The front window will be closed. Payments can also be made over the phone calling the town at 862-2066.

Police reports or other assistance can be requested by phone at 862-3125. All copies of reports will be sent by fax or e-mail.

It is recommended that all necessary precautions be taken including frequent handwashing with warm water and soap for 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, and shaking hands, and stay home if you are sick. If a person has a high fever and cough, they should contact their medical professional or call the emergency room before arriving at the facility. For more information, see the NC Department of Health and Human Service website (www.ncdhhs.gov/coronavirus )

The Town staff is monitoring the situation and will provide tools and resources as they become available.
