The purpose of the Robert Curtis Hester Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter number 99 is to serve the Veterans and their families as a full-service resource center and to be a place for Veterans to gather for companionship, according to Veterans Neil “Tojie” King and Luther Wright.

The local DAV Chapter was donated a house by the Bladen Baptist Association a couple of years ago. Last year the DAV made it known their headquarters needed a roof. Recently Four County Electric Membership Corporation donated funds for a new roof to the local chapter.

The DAV members said they are very grateful for the new roof, and although the COVID-19 Pandemic has limited them, they continue to keep their doors open for appointments.

“We want all Veterans to know that someone does care about what happened to them for therapeutic help,” King stated.

The DAV plans to work with the local American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter on a “Stand Down” project to offer Veterans and their families resources for medical, dental, counseling, clothes, and more.

King and Luther explained the local DAV is available by appointment, and they are open on Tuesday each week. To schedule an appointment, you may call King at 910-874-3248, Luther at 910-922-7589, or Commander David Brown 910-740-6312.

The DAV accepts volunteer assistance and donations. Monetary donations may be mailed to 502 South Cypress Street, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
