Louisville, KY – Local students have showcased their exceptional talents and academic abilities at the  National Junior Beta Club Convention held in Louisville, Kentucky, at the end of June 2023. The convention provided Junior Beta members nationwide a platform to enhance their leadership skills, exchange service ideas, and foster lifelong relationships.

Several schools from Bladen County participated in the convention, and their achievements are commendable. 

Bladenboro Middle School also had reason to celebrate, as they secured an impressive third place in portfolio design. The dedication and creativity of the students from Bladenboro Middle School were recognized, showcasing their exceptional skills in graphic design and presentation. Their accomplishment adds to the overall success of Bladen County at the convention.

Clarkton School of Discovery (CSD), which had previously celebrated victories at the State Junior Beta Convention, continued their winning streak at the national level. Jaxon Hair, a student from CSD, achieved a fourth-place finish in the nation for his exceptional woodworking design. The school proudly announced their achievement: “A HUGE congrats to Jaxon Hair! He placed 4th in the NATION for his amazing woodworking design!” 

CSD also announced their GOLDEN ticket winner, Brooklyn Skinner, who represented the school at the National Convention as a Premier Performer. CSD stated, “She received the Golden Ticket at the State Convention in January for her outstanding performance. Keep making us proud, Brooklyn!”

Elizabethtown Christian Academy (ECA) demonstrated its prowess in various categories. Christian Andrews secured an impressive third place in woodworking, displaying his exceptional skills and craftsmanship. Ayden Chadwick made it to the top 10 in public speaking, a testament to his eloquence and confidence. ECA proudly shared their achievements on social media, stating, “Another National Award: Great job, Christian Andrews! We are proud of you,” and “Way to go, Ayden Chadwick! We are so proud of you!”

Emereau: Bladen also confidently took the stage at the convention, with Ellie Wilkins securing an impressive fourth place in digital art. Her talent and creativity were recognized nationally, showcasing the vibrant arts program at Emereau: Bladen. Furthermore, Elyn Rice from Emereau: Bladen competed for a national office position, already serving as the North Carolina State Junior Beta Secretary. The school also submitted work for their club’s 3D Design, with Miss Alyssa Norris Shelton leading the charge.

Harrells Christian Academy displayed its artistic abilities as Savannah Kate Stevens claimed the prestigious 2023 Grand Champion of Elementary Mixed Media title. Her dedication and hard work were evident as she meticulously crafted ocean waves out of resin. The school’s Facebook page overflowed with praise, stating, “She looked at hours of videos and spent untold time practicing to create ocean waves out of resin! Congratulations!”

Tar Heel Middle School also made their mark at the National Beta Club Convention. Javier Cabrera Mendez and Emily Campos Estrada submitted remarkable pieces in the Three-Dimensional Design, Painting, Drawing, and Apparel Design competitions. The school’s seventh-grader, Ashley Solis-Sandova, was the proud recipient of the coveted “GOLDEN ticket,” earning the opportunity to perform on the grand stage at the convention. Additionally, fifth-grader Kira showcased her talent in Visual Arts – Painting, capturing hearts with her creative and captivating artwork.

Local schools’ achievements at the Junior National Beta Club Convention are a testament to the dedication and hard work of the students, teachers, and staff. Their success in various categories reflects their commitment to excellence and passion for academic and artistic pursuits.
