Spread the love

United Way’s annual Day of Caring is a volunteer event that brings the community together to create a positive impact on the nonprofits and human service providers that help those in need. Volunteers also tackle projects at local schools, churches, and city parks.

Day of Caring is held annually on Friday of Mother’s Day weekend.

354 volunteers provided 1,166 hours of service to ensure United Way’s 2023 Day of Caring was successful! Projects throughout Bladen,

Hoke, and Robeson County provided a value of $37,091.54 in volunteer time. United Way hopes to increase those stats for 2024 Day of Caring.

LUMBERTON, NC (2/16/2024) –. Lumber River United Way’s annual Day of Caring is scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2024. LRUW is seeking community projects that bring volunteers together to positively impact the nonprofits and human service providers that help those in need. Day of Caring is an incredible opportunity to tackle large and small projects at your agency or school that otherwise may not get accomplished. We want to help entities plan creative, meaningful projects that volunteers will enjoy and wish to sustain that will make an impact, not only on those you engage with on Day of Caring but also on our community overall.

Local nonprofits, schools, churches, municipal and county governments are encouraged to apply by contacting Lumber River United Way’s Director of Community Impact Tomeika Munn at tmunn@lumberriveruw.org. The 2024 LRUW Day of Caring application is available now and due by Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Day of Caring is sponsored by Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC Hummer & GRAIL.

“United Way is encouraging any entity that provides health and human service needs to consider submitting a project for review by the Day of Caring Volunteer Committee”, said Director of Community Impact Tomeika Munn, “think of Spring cleaning your facility, organizing that storage locker, or sprucing up your local city or county park.”

Individuals and businesses unable to volunteer for larger projects may consider stopping by Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC Hummer to sew a pillowcase for cancer patients, students, and seniors for a 15-minute volunteer project. Additional volunteer opportunities include dropping off nonperishable food items at Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC Hummer and City of Lumberton City Hall on the day of the event from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Lumber River United Way strives to create positive, lasting change for people in need. We are a volunteer- driven organization dedicated to solving the most pressing health and human service needs by assisting people in Bladen, Hoke, and Robeson Counties who need help the most.
