East Bladen junior Maya McDonald, who set a number of scoring records this season, has been named the Three Rivers Conference Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year.

McDonald led the Lady Eagles to victories in their first 14 games this season before East Bladen was eliminated in the NCHSAA Class 2A Eastern Regional semifinals by Carrboro.

The speedy junior poured in 57 goals to set a new career scoring record of 98 goals for East Bladen. That is more than any other Eagle soccer player, male or female. She was a ‘Hat Trick’ machine and twice scored 7 goals in a game – another East Bladen record that also tied the 13th most in NCHSAA history.

“Maya is one of the most explosive players I have ever coached,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor, who was named the Three Rivers Coach of the Year for leading the Lady Eagles to a perfect 6-0 record in conference play.

“Maya never seems to be rushed and makes things happen,” Raynor said. “She had an amazing year. Maya flourishes on the soccer field and does it the right way. She scores a lot but she is every bit a team player.”

McDonald was second on the team with 11 assists and finished with 186 steals.
