ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s jayvees completed an undefeated men’s soccer season Monday night with a 3-0 Three Rivers Conference victory over Red Springs. The Eagles won the conference championship with a 5-0-1 league record and 7-0-2 overall mark.

Freshman Milton Estrada sent a cross into the box that was headed by a defender. Freshman Will Hester met the ball at the back post for a one-time finish that was the only Eagle goal in the first half.

Seven minutes into the second half Jared Storms directed a pass to Estrada who dropped the ball back to sophmore Jay McGill who connected on a ‘beautiful’ shot from 19 yards out according to Coach Jay Raynor.

With 8 minutes remaining sophmore Ebrahim Algozy fired a pass to freshman Jackson Bostic who blasted in the shot from just inside the penalty area.

Freshman Jacob Priest was credited with one save for the Eagles. “Reid Potter, Drew Sholar, and A. J. Smith had outstanding performances in the back,” said Coach Raynor. “They worked extremely hard and got the shutout.”

“I’m very proud of these guys!” said Coach Raynor. “They have worked hard all year and have selfless attitudes. They controlled the game tonight. They are still a little green but they do some really amazing things.”

“We fielded a team last year to get the guys playing, and the numbers were up (this year) as was our level of play,” continued Raynor. “Doc (Dr. Ray Cross) did a great job coaching them and is excellent when it comes to fundamentals and teaching the game.”

“Building a program is like building a house and this a great foundation to build upon,” concluded Coach Raynor.

Hester, Jay McKoy, McGill and Estrada finished the season with 5 goals each, while Bostic scored four. McGill led the team with 9 assists, while Hester followed with eight.

Priest posted 3 shutouts in goal, giving up 5 goals while making 36 saves. “The backline and holding players (Potter, Smith, Allen Owens and Jose Arteaga) were big factors in posting those numbers,” said Raynor.
